Television, reimagined.

I had the opportunity to join Rakuten TV as a Head of Product Design with two strong challenges. In one side, to harmonise design strategy for the many different platforms Rakuten TV is in. That mean working on a consolidated design that could be accomodated for any screen size and all the operations around to make it happen: modular design system, design guidelines for the content managers and a reinforced connection with engineering.

And, in the other hand, to prepare the platforms for new business models aka. AVOD or SVOD. This was specially challenging in terms of user experience since we found ourselves into a maze of happy paths and edge cases when trying to watch a tv show, a movie or a tv channel, for instance.

During my time there, we revamped all the applications, changed the way of working since we implemented Sketch + Abstract, created a unique design system for all the platforms and helped with the launch of AVOD, a new business model that currently is driving more traffic and revenue than the traditional video-on-demand model. Together with Philips we also worked in a Rakuten TV based operating system and conceptualised a STB to be commercialised in Japan first.

Strong focus on providing a multi-device experience with a consolidated look and feel for smart TVs, smartphones and web.
